Community Services
At Myokinetics we are committed to improving the health and well-being of residents in and around the Chester area.
We will actively support this commitment by providing a safe space for local people to exercise at MyoGym (with discounted rates for those referred by their GP through social prescribing services); free weekly orientations sessions covering safe use of gym equipment & principles of exercise; and outreach to vulnerable and excluded community groups. You can read more about these initiatives below.
Social Prescribing at MyoGym
In partnership with Cheshire West and Chester Social Prescribing services (operated by Healthbox CIC), Myokinetics is more than happy to offer reduced membership rates at MyoGym for those prescribed exercise by their local GP in order to improve their health and well-being.

MyoGym is a safe space for individuals who want to exercise but prefer not to do so amid the hustle and bustle of most corporate gyms. With 24 hr access the gym also provides scope to train whenever life allows.
In combination with our gym orientation programme and with access to Myokinetics highly experienced sports therapists and functional movement specialists, members of MyoGym can be assured that they have the capacity to exercise safely and for maximum health and well-being benefits.

If you are interested in accessing MyoGym via social prescribing please discuss this with your GP at your next check-up and they can refer you via your local social prescribing link worker
Gym & exercise orientation sessions
Improving how and helping people understand why they exercise is a core aim of our free four weekly rolling programme of gym and exercise orientation sessions. Every Friday from 6-7pm these hows and whys are examined under the expert guidance of one of Myokinetics functional movement specialists in a fun and relaxed atmosphere with like-minded people.

Each session covers a different part of a full body fitness programme (Push / Pull / Legs / Cardio & Core); includes some basic mobility and warm up routines; and if there's space you can jump in on any session. They are not exercise classes as such, the aim is to ensure that people have a basic familiarity with using machines and free weights; that they know how to warm up and cool down; and that they gain experience in the correct method for performing common exercises.

By the end of our sessions, participants will be more competent at using gym facilities than 90% of the members that you would find in a regular gym (if our experience is anything to go by). The courses are intended for participants to learn in a fun, light hearted environment and to increase confidence so that they are ready and able to walk into any gym, anywhere and be comfortable using the facilities.

If people are interested in attending these sessions, they can express interest or get further info by e-mailing us here
Outreach to local community groups
In addition to the provision of in-reach services at Myokinetics, our therapists are also actively engaged in outreach work. We provide simple exercise and health promotion talks throughout the local community to young people, disadvantaged, excluded and disabled groups and agencies working with them.

It is our aim to encourage these groups to begin exercising and to do so in a safe and healthy way. Our focus is on ensuring that not only are people physically prepared for exercise, but that they are skilled in being able to design exercise programmes that will improve their health and well-being over the long term.

Following fitness fads or attempting to complete bodybuilding style workouts are seldom great first places for anyone to begin their fitness journey and with Myokinetics outreach, we ensure that people can acheive their fitness goals without fear of chronice or acute injury.

If you would like one of our therapists to come and talk to a group that you run please drop us an email and we will get right back to you

Legat Owen & Handelsbanken Chester Health & Well-being Sessions
Since 2019, Myokinetics therapists have been running monthly deep tissue massage clinics for office based and on-site staff. These sessions mostly address issues related to high levels of computer based work around the neck and shoulders.
In addition, staff are able to use the time provided for any other aches and pains that they may have. Our therapists are able to provide advice and guidance on management and remedial stretching / strengthening to target these issues.

Once you've tried a Myokinetics therapist, there will only ever be Myokinetics Therapists or so it seems: 'we had such great feedback, would like to book again please' Nicola Arrowsmith Office Manager Handelsbanken
The Good Food Yogi and Good Life Society Health and Well-being Summer Camps Hawarden
Myokinetics therapists provide sports and deep tissue massage services at the Good Life Society annual summer camps held on Hawarden Estate. These summer camps provide folk a chance to escape into nature, to reset, relax and unwind.

As such Myokinetics therapies and services naturally support the aims of these summer camps, providing opportunities for attendees to remove the physical stresses and strains that accumulate in the body as a result of the pressures of keeping up with a 24/7 non-stop digital modern society.
City Of Liverpool College Careers Advice and Guidance
Members of the team are also on hand to offer free career advice and guidance sessions to local schools and colleges, and often are able to do so via interactive media calls, such as a recent Zoom call to students at the City of Liverpool College.

Our team were able to discuss the opportunities for employment within the sports and fitness and physical therapy industries to students from a number of courses at dispersed locations throughout the College.

'Thank you so much for spending time with us supporting our Career Talks for City of Liverpool College last week...Without support from people like yourself who believe in helping the young people of today learn more about the opportunities available to them after education and about the world we live in, we would not be able to deliver these type of events, which are so vitally important to their futures.' Tina Baker, Schools Employability Co-ordinator
Cheshire West & Chester Environmental Services Health Education
As an approved provider for Cheshire West & Cheshire County Council, at the start of 2022, Myokinetics provided health & well-being education and training to CWaC County Council's entire environmental services department including front line, office and management. We conducted 14 hour long sessions with small groups of staff (max 10 per group).
Having already assessed the physical impact of the varied workplace environments (including likely current workplace related injuries), each session combined an interactive screening of staff for muscular imbalances that would have a negative impact on both health and work performance. Having identified these triggers for musculoskeletal work related injuries, the sessions concluded with advice and guidance on effective remedial stretching, mobilisation and strengthening the staff could take to either mitigate the risk of developing, or work to eliminate any future or current workplace related strains.

George Hutchinson (Team Leader Environmental Services CWaC Council) had this to say 'the sessions were great never realised how tight I was and how it would affect my lower back, I've been doing the couch stretch every day and my back feels great'
